'Foundation Course in Spanish, Third Edition' is intended for beginning students who wish to understand and use Spanish. The materials presented will make possible a development of the language skills in their natural order - listening, speaking, reading, and writing. At the same time that the student learns to understand and say in Spanish many of the things he says every day in English and learns to read and write simple Spanish, he will become informed of something of the civilization, culture, customs, and way of life of the peoples whose language he is studying. This edition of'Foundation Course in Spanish, Third Edition' consists of one preliminary lesson on pronunciation, followed by twenty-five lessons, five reviews, fifteen'Lecturas,' five'Conversaciones,' a short section on letter writing, four appendices, and the end vocabularies. The maps and illustrations form an important part of the book, offering great variety in topics which supplement the story of the cultural background in the Spanish-speaking lands. The art section is a special feature of the book. Through the use of carefully selected slides, films, filmstrips, and other visual materials, the student will gain an even wider understanding of Hispanic culture. |
