Mek Mulung merupkan sebuah dramatari yang mempunyai kelainan dan keunikan tersendiri. Ia dipercayai berasal dari Ligor, Siam dan dikembangkan secara turun-menurun ke negeri Kedah. Kini Mek Mulung masih dipraktikkan oleh satu keluarga di Kampung Wang Tepus, Jitra, Kedah. Persembahan ini mengandungi kombinasi nyanyian, tarian dan dialog. Lirik, nyanyian dan dialog yang dilafazkan berpandukan cerita-cerita Melayu lama dan banyak menggunakan dialek Kedah diiringi muzik tradisional. Unsur-unsur semangat dan'pemujaan' begitu ketara dalam upacara'sambut guru' dan ketika mengubati pesakit. |
